DORCHESTER, MA (Source: The Boston Globe) -- A group of friends went to Peggy O’Neil’s Pub and Grille for a winter birthday celebration, but the fete quickly soured when some in their party were banned because of the color of their skin, the Massachusetts attorney general’s office alleges in a civil rights lawsuit.

The people left standing outside in December were African-American, Hispanic, and Cape Verdean, said the suit, announced yesterday. The birthday celebrant, who was white, was already inside. She came out and tried to intervene, but her efforts were in vain. Owner Caron O’Neil, the suit said, refused to let the other guests come inside. (...) (Read more on Boston.com)

Welcome to America.I came to Boston in 1977 at the age of 16. It was very bad then. Blacks people couldn't go to South Boston. It was very risky to take a chance to go to South Boston or Charlestown. I moved to Brockton years ago and here it's even worst. I've been stopped by cops a few times jus because I was driving a nice car and now I decided to drive a junk. Guess what? No more cops around me. We need to pack our luggage and go home. Yes go home. Don't bother fighting because you will loose.

E Pluribus Unum describes an action: Many uniting into one. An accurate translation of the motto is "Out of many, one"

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BELONGS TO ALL OF US.
WE ALL HAVE TO CONTINUE FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE.

FIGHT. NEVER GIVE UP. FIGHT FOR JUSTICE.

This lawsuit is ridiculous. Mi e' criolo. I have been to this bar in several occasions over the years and I was never discriminated or barred entrance. Some of the criolos in Boston the way they behave, (me as Capeverdean), I would not allow them in my establishment either. Nhos odja cuze ki contici ku Carlos Bar.

Whenever you think that Boston is moving beyond its racist reputation, the city gets dragged back to into by some racist scam bags again. This case has became a national news. Both Fox News and the Associated Press have picked up this story.

Like we did with the Red Sox, Boston needs to bring a voodoo priest in town to do something to break this bad racism curse.

The owner on the video has racism spelled all over her face. She has the guilty look of someone caught with her hand on the cookie jar. She also looks very nervous and acts like a chicken with her head cut off - moving her head and eyes all over.

Her face alone tells us clearly that she's guilty.

Good catch Martha Coakley.

Racism in Boston??? Say it ain't so. If this article made the papers, there are a bunch more that could make the front. Ms. Oneil were they drunk?, was it too late? or were they drunk and too late while being non-you know...I've been there, the only thing mixed and diverse are the drinks. Good luck Martha!!!

i'm cape verdian and i was a regular from 2000 to 2005. never was descriminated by the owner if i was late i was late. and capeverdians need to respect each other so they can be respected. stop the killing of your own family. stop it it is not our culture. and when i was there blacks in general would go there and not respect the woman. if i had a bar i would not let some of these criolos in

I'd rather Invite Michele Bachmann' husband to come here and pray away the racism. If Dr. Bachmann can pray away the gay, he can for sure pray away the racism.

you are obviously the most ignorant person walking on earth. clearly you are a racist and should be on some concentration camp in Iraq spreading your immense hate! they could use you out there. commenting on a race in its entirety, you are painting everyone with a broad paint stroke. if you do your research, you will learn that people from Fogo were the first of the Cape Verdeans to emigrate to the United States and it's no surprise that Cape Verde does so well on the world population data sheet. It is through the people of Fogo who have continuously sent back money, purchased land and economically supported CV to this date. Futher, most of the people of Fogo are educated, lawyers, doctors and professional business partners contributing to the society. We come from people who worked hard to gain citizenship in the United States but who have not forgotten their heritage. It is in poor taste that you make such derogatory comments of such nature. I hope that most on this website do not engage in discriminating against your own race. How can we accuse another race of discriminating when we are doing the same against our own!
