BOSTON, MA -- The Boston Board of Election Commissioners reminds prospective new voters, and current voters who have moved, that the last day to register, or change your voting address, for the September 27 Preliminary Municipal Elections is Wednesday, September 7.

There will be Preliminary Elections in City Council Districts Two, Three, and Seven.  There will be no Preliminary Election for City Council At-Large or in the other six districts.  All candidates for the four At-Large seats will appear on the November 8 ballot, as will all candidates in the remaining districts.

The three Districts holding Preliminary Elections include the following neighborhoods: Bay Village, Chinatown, South Boston (including Seaport), South End, Leather District, and parts of Downtown.  Also included are Dorchester and Roxbury, as well as part of the Fenway.  If you are unsure if there is a Preliminary Election in your District, please contact the Boston Election Department.  A list of candidates can be found on the website: www.cityofboston.gov/elections.

Voting in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including Boston, is address-based.  Voters can make sure that their voting information is current by checking online at www.cityofboston.gov/elections and clicking on the “Voter Registration Search” link.  In order to participate in the District Preliminary Elections, a voter must be registered in the appropriate district.

If you are currently registered to vote in the City of Boston, but are at a new address: Write a brief note, giving your full name, date of birth, old voting address, and new voting address, as well as a means of contact (telephone number or e-mail address).  Sign the note, and mail to: Boston Election Department; Room 241, Boston City Hall; Boston, MA 02201.  You may also download a new voter registration form from the website, and use it to change your residential information.

If you are currently registered in Massachusetts, but not in Boston: You must re-register to vote.  Download a National Voter Registration form from www.cityofboston.gov/elections or call 617-635-3767, and a new form will be sent to you.

All new voter registration forms or address changes must be postmarked no later than September 7 in order to be recognized for the Preliminary Election.

The Boston Election Department in Room 241 at Boston City Hall will be open until 8PM for those who wish to register or make changes in person on September 7.  After 5PM, please enter City Hall from the Congress Street side, opposite Faneuil Hall.

For more information, contact 617-635-3767 or visit the website www.cityofboston.gov/elections.
